A close-up view of the fanning heads of papyrus plants at Adok in western Nuerland during the rainy season. Papyrus is particularly associated with the Nile, and is found along much of its banks and many permanent tributaries. Evans-Pritchard was in Adok during Oct-Nov of 1936 at the beginning of seven weeks fieldwork among the western Nuer.
