Description:
A group of men at a feast.
In the centre the master of the feast (identified in [1998.341.460] as Manguru) holding a ceremonial staff, consisting of a short stick with a globular end possibly of barkcloth.
He also wears the whistle of a song-leader around his neck, used to call people to a dance, as well as a plaited plant-fibre belt.
The ceremonial staff may well be used to beat the wooden gong (gugu) used at such a feast (pumbó).
To his left is a man identified as Nzoropoi, and to his right Panyamu (holding a mambere).

Other Information:
It is possible that the plaited girdle belt is the one described in Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic Among the Azande (OUP 1937, page 459) as 'the girdle which indicates that a person has taken on himself the responsibility of maintaining the conditions essential to the success of vengeance-magic" [Chris Morton 1/12/2003]
