Description:
A view of a paddle-steamer on the Nile from the bank.
Paddle-steamers, such as the Kereri on which Wilfred Thesiger was based in western Nuerland, often served as mobile district headquarters for colonial officials from the 1930s, and provided essential transport for local populations to some services such as medical treatment.
