Several cattle moving through lush vegetation, the one in the centre of the frame having a weaning sheath consisting of a muzzle with spikes protruding.
This was used to stop the calf from suckling its mother who would kick it away.
The photograph was taken near Mancom village, the home of Evans-Pritchard's servant Tiop, and where he spent some 4 weeks in the middle of 1935 at the mouth of the Nyanding River among the Gaajok tribe.
