Description:
A group portrait of two Dinka men and a woman, sitting outside the large thatched District Officer's building. The D.O. in Gogrial from 1948 was Ranald Boyle (known in Dinka as tim atiep or the shading-tree, which in turn is a metaphor for the black macar cattle colouring). The men are wearing European style clothes and the woman an Arab style head covering, reflecting the mixture of cultural influences of the period.
