Description:
A view of the District Commissioner's house at Gogrial, with a separate office room attached to the right. The D.C. during Lienhardt's fieldwork was Ranald Boyle, who served in the Sudan Political Service in Gogrial from 1948 until 1953 and was known by his Dinka ox-name as tim atiep or the shading-tree, which in turn is a metaphor for the black macar cattle colouring.
