Description:
A homestead courtyard with a hut made with woven grass walls plastered over with mud around the entrance, gourd vessels and other domestic items left scattered about by the inhabitants.
In the centre and bottom right are sunken hearths.
The sunken hearths, as well as other similarities, seems to suggest that this was taken during fieldwork with an Anuak community.

Biographical Information - Godfrey Lienhardt carried out fieldwork among the Anuak during 1952-1954 as a Research Fellow of the International African Institute, with funding intially provided by UNESCO for the study of African cosmological ideas and social values.
He later wrote a two-part article entitled 'Anuak Village Headmen' (
