Description:
One of Thesiger's porters holding the trophy head of a Giant Eland. This could be his interpeter Malo who was also an enthuastic and skilled shot and accompanied Thesiger on his daily hunts. Big game hunting formed a significant element of Thesiger's activities in Western Nuerland, and he later acknowledged that it facilitated his acceptance by the Nuer, and provided nutrition for his porters.
