Description:
An unidentified European couple in their home, possibly in Kenya or Uganda, although it is uncertain when or if Buxton visited either country. The photograph has been posed by Buxton in the manner of an 'interiors' magazine, with both the husband and wife adopting stereotyped gender positions within the home space in keeping with 1950s English society. It is evident however that at least some of the intention of the image is to show off the colonial lifestyle, with modern civilised living indoors coupled with relaxing outdoor living in the warmth, the two dimensions of colonial life flowing between each other unhindered through the large wall opening.
