Description:
A scene in a Mandari Köbora cattle camp, with a man and children looking to the camera. To the left is a reed fence consisting of vertical and horizontal reeds tied together in a loose framework. This fence seems to keep cattle away from a large circular hearth area (note build-up of ash layer) where smoky cattle-dung fires were lit at night to discourage mosquitos. These hearths were areas of social interaction for those in the camp also, and the ash used in body decoration, cleansing etc. This may well be in a Köbora camp which Buxton visited in March and April of 1950 and 1951.
