Description:
A Mandari Köbora mother and child sitting within the staked circle of a cattle-camp fire, a large open basket visible just beyond containing gourd vessels.
Such cattle dung camp fires were lit in the centre of the cattle kraal to keep away pests that troubled the animals at night, but were also areas of social interaction during the day as well as providing warmth for some sleeping there at night.
Cow-dung ash areas also provide a clean area for children to play in, it being used for a variety of cleaning purposes.
