Description:
A cropped print of a poor image (?light leakage) of a homestead courtyard, with granaries to right and left, raised on four corner posts and with overhanging eaves. Such granaries were important as shaded seating areas within the homestead. The hypothetical case of a granary collapsing and injuring those underneath formed the opening argument for Evans-Pritchard's discussion of Zande beliefs concerning the link between misfortune and witchcraft. This image seems to have been taken on a sojourn into the Congo.
