Description:
Evans-Pritchard's cook (wearing a white belt) bends over a fire holding a large spouted kettle of boiled water, with two Nuer youths looking on nearby. Evans-Pritchard's tent can be made out beyond to the right. In the left foreground is a pyramid-style bundle of grasses tied together, possibly to be used for renewing hut thatches. The cook with the white belt can be seen in another image of Evans-Pritchard's camp [1998.346.42]. The photograph format suggests that the image was taken during Evans-Pritchard's first fieldwork trip in 1930, and a location for this image of Pakur or Yoinyang.
