The canvas tent used by Evans-Pritchard during his Nuer fieldwork, with a smaller tent beyond for a servant. Next to this smaller tent stand two men, one of whom wearing a white shirt could well be Evans-Pritchard's Atuot servant who accompanied him on his first trip in 1930. The photograph format also suggests that the image was taken during Evans-Pritchard's first fieldwork trip in 1930, and a location for this image of Pakur or Yoinyang. Numerous items within and around the tent give a fascinating insight into everyday life during his Nuer fieldwork, including a paraffin lamp and a pith helmet placed on a tablecloth. Alongside is a glass of milk with a dish placed over it to keep flies off.
