Description:
A male and female dancer, probably Dinka, in close dancing formation. The man is wearing a feather in his hair, a wide beaded waist band with a small band of probably leopard fur below, a wooden disk arm ornament and is holding a club. The woman, who is stretching her arms back as part of her dance movement, is wearing a long apron, probably goat skin, fringed with beads, as well as cowrie waist bands. Just beyond the pair another pair are dancing together, the male holding his spear aloft. This image resembles several taken of Dinka dances by Godfrey Lienhardt (see for instance 2005.51.427), and may have been given to Evans-Pritchard by him. [CM 17/07/2006]
