In the foreground is an area of (probably Millet) cultivation that has been harvested, whilst on the horizon can be seen the roofs of nearby homesteads. The Nuer had two Millet crops, one planted in May or June and harvested in September, and a second planted around August and harvested in December or January. They also had a maize crop, harvested in August.
