Other Information:
Archive note - The negative and two prints for this image were part of a group of objects returned to the museum on 15/12/2003 from Oxford University Press. They had evidently been transferred to OUP in 1971 in preparation for their publication in The Azande, and had remained in the archive there until enquiries were made by Chris Morton in 2003 since they were missing from the collection. Email correspondence: "From Anne Ashby, 12 Dec 2003. to Chris Morton. Dear Chris, I am very happy to be able to let you know that (miraculously) our senior designer Sue Tipping has searched the archives and found the Azande photographs and negatives. We have also discovered an envelope of photographs labeled 'Witchcraft Oracles and Magic Among the Azande'. My paperback reprint (1993) contains no photographs, but I suppose that the photographs must have appeared in the original hardback? What is the safest way to hand these over to you? I could send them around to the PRM by messenger, or alternatively you might like to collect them yourself. Best wishes, Anne Ashby, Editor, Academic and Professional, Oxford University Press, Great Clarendon Street Oxford." Note that the envelope of Azande prints mentioned in the letter has also been accessioned into the collections as a separate collection. [Chris Morton 15/12/2003]
