Description:
A full length portrait of two Avokaya women posed holding hands, one facing the camera, the other turned away so as to show front and back details of dress which consists of a bunch of leaves tied at front and back from a waist string. Buchta made an excursion to eastern Zande and Avokaya country setting out from Juba on 7th July and returning there on 26th August 1879.

In H. B. Thomas' article 'Richard Buchta and Early Photography in Uganda' Uganda Journal Vol. 25, no. 1, 1960, p. 116, he notes that 'Buchta seems to have remained at Lado until on 7 July he set off for Makaraka whence he returned on 26 August.
