Description:
Club carved from a single piece of wood and consisting of a short tapering handle with oval section, the upper part of which projects above the club head, the lower part of which has a short raised flange and then tapers in to a point at the butt. The head has been carved with a narrow, slightly downward sloping top, then an ovoid body with convex sides, turning down into a slightly concavely cut underside. The two long sides of the head have been carved with deep u-shaped grooves. The wood is a warm yellowish brown colour (Pantone 464C) and has been polished, with possible traces of wear on the front and back sides of the head. There is a small split in the handle end and 2 chips missing from the edges of the head; otherwise the object is complete. It has a weight of 527.3 grams and is 578 mm long; the head is 96 mm wide, 68.5 mm thick and 120.3 mm tall, while the handle has a maximum diameter of 41.5 by 39 mm at the raised flange.

Obtained by Armine Charles Almroth Wright somewhere around the White Nile area and donated to the Pitt Rivers Museum in July 1939.

Shilluk clubs more commonly have the head located at the end of the handle, not part-way down it, as in this example.
