Description:
A portrait of a seated youth wearing a white body cloth with chain and key tied to the knot, photographed on a wall next to the Sobat River at the American Presbytarian Mission at Nasir. Evans-Pritchard visited the mission in both 1931 and 1935 and dedicated his Nuer monograph to the staff there in gratitude for their help during his fieldwork. The display of a key on a chain may be an ornament, or may suggest that he was a keyholder at the mission.
