Description:
A calf tethered in a kraal at Yakwach cattle camp with a cattle byre (luak) behind it. The calf has been ornamented with a necklace of strung vertebrae. In contrast to his two earlier fieldwork visits when photographing cattle was viewed suspiciously by the Nuer, Evans-Pritchard took numerous record images of them during his later field trips.
