Description:
A portrait of a light coloured ox with a large hump and trained left horn (ma gut) standing in grazing land. The training of horns was carried out by intiated men on their favourite beasts to create aesthetically pleasing affects. Based upon film numbers this image was probably taken among the Eastern Jikany. In contrast to his two earlier fieldwork visits when photographing cattle was viewed suspiciously by the Nuer, Evans-Pritchard took numerous record images of them during his later field trips.
