Looking across a section of village homestead with a domed hut to the right and a raised grass store platform to the left. Beyond can be seen more huts on the horizon, with smoke from grass firing drifting across the sky. Nuer burn the grass at the height of the dry season (around December) so as produce new shoots for cattle to graze on and so help to sustain them in the drought.
