Description:
Penannular brass finger ring made from a rectangular strip of sheet metal, bent into a circular loop with open ends, 2 mm apart.
These ends are slightly curved.
Both outer and inner faces are flat; the outer surface has been decorated with a band of incised crosshatching, framed by horizontal lines at top and bottom; this band is of irregular width and the hatching sometimes extends beyond the framing lines.
The ring is complete and intact, currently a metallic yellow colour (Pantone 874C), and has been polished.
It measures 19.4 mm across its outer diameter and 18.5 mm across its inside width; the band is 8.7 mm wide and approximately 0.5 mm thick, and has a weight of 2.9 grams.
Collected by Percy Horace Gordon Powell-Cotton and his wife Hannah from the town of Mongalla on 23rd January 1933, during a shooting expedition. The Bari name for this type of ring is kateman.
